Do’s
and Dont's in Asthma |
- Get active about passive smoking. Avoid those who smoke. Other people's smoking could be causing your bronchitis.
|
- Keep the fluids flowing. Drinking fluids helps the mucus become more watery and easier to dough up. Four to six glasses of fluid a day will do a good job of breaking it up.
|
- Warm liquids or just plain water is best. Avoid
caffeine or alcoholic
beverages…these
are diuretics which
make you urinate more,
and you actually lose
more fluids than you
gain.
|
- Breathe in warm, moist air. Warm, moist air will also help vaporize the mucus. If you have mucus that is thick or difficult to cough up, a vaporizer will help to loosen the secretions.
|
- Apply warm, moist heat, or a hot water bottle over the chest and back before bedtime to aid in sleeping and reduce inflammation.
|
- Avoid mucus-forming foods such as dairy products, processed foods, sugar, sweet fruits, and white flour etc.
|
- Do not eat ice cream or drink extremely cold liquids. Cold can shock the bronchial tubes into spasms.
|
- Avoid gas-producing foods like beans, cabbage, cauliflower, and so on. Gas can irritate an asthmatic condition by putting pressure on the diaphragm.
